It’s official: Verdansk is coming back to Call of Duty: Warzone on April 3. Ahead of this nostalgia-fueled return, Activision released a behind-the-scenes video that shows how the classic map from Warzone’s launch five years ago has been rebuilt from the ground up. The goal? To keep its iconic design but introduce the latest visual upgrades and lighting improvements.

A Collaboration of Powerhouse Studios

Developers from Beenox, High Noon Studios, and Raven Software teamed up to make this remake possible. According to the team, the objective was clear: preserve Verdansk’s distinct feel while taking advantage of next-gen tech for more detailed environments, high-resolution lighting, and smoother transitions from interiors to exteriors.

Brighter, Better, More Immersive

Simon Duschesne, an environment artist at Beenox, explains that Verdansk now has a new high-resolution sky and reworked reflections, alongside higher-quality light maps. These changes don’t just make the map look prettier—they also enhance gameplay by improving visibility in areas like the Prison, Airport, Dam, and Downtown.

Familiar Map, Fresh Look

While the newly rebuilt Verdansk promises sharper visuals, fans can rest assured that it still feels like the same battleground they fell in love with. It’s a classic map given a modern makeover, built on the best technology Call of Duty has to offer.

Keep your eyes peeled for April 3, when Season 3 drops, and prepare to drop back into this fan-favorite location. With Warzone recently celebrating its fifth anniversary—and teasing the return of beloved operators—it’s safe to say the Call of Duty community has plenty to look forward to.
