CD Projekt co-CEO Michał Nowakowski believes “cutting-edge single-player games” are here to stay, even as the broader games industry gravitates toward live service, free-to-play, and other emerging models. In the company’s latest board report assessing its 2024 performance, Nowakowski highlighted the enduring appeal of immersive, narrative-driven experiences:

“We are aware that the video game market continues to evolve – however, we believe that cutting-edge single-player games rooted in strong franchises and immersive narratives will continue to enjoy great popularity. Our experience, along with brands such as The Witcher and Cyberpunk, which it is our pleasure to further develop, help us build a strong position on the market and paint a positive outlook – while collaboration with global tech and innovation leaders enables us to keep abreast of technical developments in the industry and continue to deliver top-quality entertainment.”

This stance loosely echoes recent comments from Baldur’s Gate 3 director Swen Vincke, who dismissed the notion that single-player blockbusters are fading, asserting that “they just have to be good.”

Expanding Franchises and New IP

CD Projekt continues to lean on its two flagship properties—The Witcher and Cyberpunk—while also nurturing a new IP codenamed Hadar. The studio’s current pipeline includes:

  • The Witcher 4 (Project Polaris)
  • A Cyberpunk 2077 sequel (Project Orion)
  • A Witcher remake
  • A mysterious Witcher spinoff (Project Sirius)

Though the company recently announced a mobile collaboration with Scopely and remains open to industry shifts, its core development effort is firmly anchored in single-player RPG experiences.

Growing Development Teams

CD Projekt reported a headcount increase from 650 to 707 developers between October 31, 2024, and February 28, 2025—particularly in teams working on The Witcher 4, Orion, and “shared services” supporting parallel projects. As Cyberpunk 2077 associate game director Paweł Sasko put it: “we are growing my chooms.”

All told, Nowakowski’s remarks indicate that even amid a surge of live-service and free-to-play ventures, CD Projekt is intent on doubling down on the single-player genre that propelled its success—betting that fans’ appetite for high-quality story-driven adventures remains strong.
